What are Investment Shares?
Investment Shares are a unique investment opportunity that is available only to you, the member. They are not a product sold on a regular basis but rather a special offering that will be available for a limited time only. These shares will help to support the continuous growth and development of our credit union.
What is the Investment Share Offering?
We are offering Class B Investment Shares Series 1 and Series 2. These shares represent capital in the credit union and are offered for sale to members at $1.00 per share.
How many shares are being offered?
Peoples Credit Union is offering a maximum of $5,000,000 shares. A minimum of $2,000,000 shares must be sold for a successful share issue. At any time after achieving $2,000,000 in sales, the board of directors could decide to close the offering. This means that if you are interested in purchasing these shares, you should act quickly as time could be of the essence.
How many shares can I purchase?
Shares will be offered with a minimum value of 1,000 shares up to a maximum of 100,000 shares.
What is the difference between Series 1 and Series 2?
Series 1: is offered at a target rate of 4.50% per year for the first 5 years.
Series 2: is offered at a variable rate equal to or greater than a rate which exceeds by 100 basis points the average yield on the monthly series of the Government of Canada five-year-bonds. To view past bond rates follow this link Bank of Canada Bond Rates and select Series V122540
Who is eligible to purchase shares?
Single purchasers: must be 18 years old and hold $25.00 member equity shares under a primary member number.
Joint Members: must be 18 years old and is limited to a maximum of two members.
In Trust: they may be purchased in trust for a specified member by another member as the Trustee.
Companies/Organizations: Businesses may purchase shares in the name of the company or organization with the signatures of the authorized signing authorities.
Are my shares covered by DICO?
The shares that are offered are not considered deposits and therefore not covered by deposit insurance.
Are the dividends guaranteed?
The intent is to pay dividends annually. It is however at the discretion of the board of directors.
Is there a tax break on the dividends paid?
No. The dividends are considered interest for tax purposes. A T5 will be issued.
