Interac®e-Transfer
Peoples Credit Union is helping you stay connected whenever and wherever you need too with Interac®e-Transfer. It is a fast, secure and convenient way to send and receive money to anyone with an email address or a mobile phone number and a Canadian deposit account. The sender does not need to know the recipient’s institution or account information. It uses email and text messaging for fast notification to the recipient that a transfer has been sent, while participating financial institutions transfer the funds using established and secure banking procedures.
To take advantage of Interac®e-Transfer, all you need is access to online banking, a computer and/or a smartphone. It is that easy!

1. What is an Interac®e-Transfer ?
It allows you to send money to another person by email or smartphone from your account as long as they have an email address, or smartphone and a Canadian bank account.
2. Is sending money using Interac®e-Transfer safe?
Yes! Sending money using Interac®e-Transfer safe. You create a shared security question that must be answered correctly by the recipient in order for the funds to be directly deposited into the recipients account.
3. How efficient is the transfer?
When sending money, the funds and any applicable service charges are immediately debited from your account. The transfer can be completed in as little as 30 minutes.
4. Is there a cost to send an Interac®e-Transfer ?
There is a $1.00 service fee per transaction. This fee is non-refundable and withdrawn from you account immediately upon processing.
5. How do I sign up for Interac®e-Transfer ?
Signing up is free and it is easy! All you have to do is log-in to online banking or mobile banking and click on Transfers. Simply follow the instructions to create your profile and you are ready to go. If you do not have access to online banking, please contact your branch for more information.

Can I receive an Interac®e-Transfer ?
Yes. If you receive an email notification or a text message, follow the instructions provided. You will be re-directed to online/mobile banking so that you can answer the security question that was created. Once the security question has been successfully answered, you will choose the account that you want the funds deposited into and you will have access to the funds.

Can I cancel an Interac®e-Transfer ?
The transaction can be cancelled if the recipient has not yet received and deposited the money. Once cancelled, the money will be deposited back into your account immediately. The service charges will not be refunded.

Can the recipient decline the money transfer?
Yes they can. The sender will receive notification that the funds have been declined. The sender can then follow the instructions provided to have the money deposited back into their account.

Can I send money outside of Canada?
Any money that is sent must be in Canadian funds and deposited into a Canadian account.
Register and add Recipients
How to Register
Before you can send money by Interac® e-Transfer, you need to register and create a recipients' list (address book). Registration is quick, easy and only needs to be completed once.
Creating a Profile
If you have never sent money by Interac® e-Transfer before, you need to register as a 'Sender' and create a profile.
- Log-in to online/mobile web banking and
- Select the Create Interac® e-Transfer Profile link.
- Enter your name, email address and mobile phone number and click Continue.
Your profile is now created.
About Your Profile
- The email address and/or mobile phone number that you have entered will be used to inform you when your transfer has been received or declined.
- You can update your profile at any time
Creating a Recipients' List
Before you can send money by Interac® e-Transfer, you need to add that person's name, email address and/or mobile phone number and security question to your recipients' list.
- Select Add a Recipient.
- Enter the recipient's name, email address and mobile phone number, and a security question and answer.
- Click Continue to finish adding a recipient to your address list.
Important Information about Security
- For your security, only you and the recipient should know the security question and answer. You can communicate this to the recipient by phone or in person for additional security.
- You can set up as many recipients as you like, but for your protection ensure each recipient has a unique security question and answer.
- You can edit a recipient's information at any time, or delete a recipient at any time.
Send Money
After registering, creating your profile and creating your recipient list, sending money is easy.
How to Send Money
- Log-in -- in online banking, go the Transfer Money section; in mobile banking, select Interac® e-Transfer in the menu.
- Select SendInterac® e-Transfer.
- Enter the amount of money you want to send, the account of withdrawal and select the recipient from your recipients' list.
- You can enter a short message for the recipient. This message should not contain the answer to the security question.
- Click Continue to complete the transaction.
Important Information about Sending Money
- It can take 15 minutes or more for the recipient to receive notification informing them that you have sent them money.
- If the recipient has not deposited the money that you sent to them, you can send them an email or text message reminder
- If the money you have sent is not deposited within 30 days, it will be automatically deposited back into your account.
- Once money has been deposited by the recipient, it cannot be cancelled. Be sure to verify the email address or mobile phone number before you send money.
- Keep the password secret so that only you and the recipient know the answer.
How to Cancel an INTERAC e-Transfer
You can cancel an Interac® e-Transfer before it has been deposited by the recipient.
- Click PendingInterac® e-Transfer to view money that you have sent that has not yet been deposited.
- Click Cancel to cancel the transfer and to deposit the money back into your account
Receive Money
All Peoples Credit Union members can receive money by Interac® e-Transfer. Money received will be deposited directly into your Peoples Credit Union account.
How to Receive Money
A friend or family member can send you money if their financial institution offers the service. You will receive an email or text message to deposit the money into your PCU account.
- Click on the link in the message. You will be directed to a special site operated by Certapay, an Interac subsidary.
- Follow the instructions on the Certapay site to select Peoples Credit Union.
- Follow the instructions on the Certapay site to log-in to online/mobile web banking.
- Log-in to online/mobile web banking and enter the answer to the security question.
- Choose the PCU account into which you wish to deposit the money.
The money is now deposited into your Peoples Credit Union account!
Important Information about Receiving Money
- There is no fee to deposit money into your account that you have received by email.
- If you do not want to deposit the money into your account, you can decline the transfer. You can send a message to the sender explaining why you declined the transfer.
